World-Class Care

on the Beaches.

That’s success. Let’s protect it.

Northern Beaches Hospital delivers some of the best results

in NSW – faster care, shorter waits and outstanding outcomes

for local families.

Now, as government, clinicians and the

community work together to shape its future, we have the

chance to protect what’s working and make it even better.

WHO WE ARE

Doctors speaking

up for the community

they serve.

The Northern Beaches Clinicians Alliance (NBCA) is an independent association established, led and supported by local clinicians, to safeguard access to high-quality healthcare for our community. We live and work here and we’ve seen how the co-located public–private model gives our community the access, choice and continuity of care it deserves. We welcome the opportunity to work with government, health authorities and the community to protect what works and strengthen local care for the future.

WHAT’S HAPPENING

Collaboration is vital.

The NSW Government has confirmed its commitment to retain a co-located public and private facility at Northern Beaches Hospital and to collaborate with clinicians and the community on how it evolves. That collaboration is vital because the data shows this model already delivers results worth protecting.

THE FACTS

Every surgery on time

The only major hospital in NSW to achieve 100% of elective public surgeries on time.

Faster emergency care

72% of patients start treatment on time which is well above the state average.

Quicker ambulance off-loads

92% within 30 minutes. Median handover 11 minutes. One of the best results in the state.

Shorter hospital stays

4.9 days on average which is shorter than district and state averages.

Public and private

working together

20,000 private operations

a year reduce public waitlists

by up to 40%.

Independent validation

NSW Auditor-General: ‘Built for top-quartile public service delivery standards.’ Clinical Excellence Commission: ‘Publicly accountable and privately efficient.’

LOOKING AHEAD

This is a chance to evolve, not undo, what’s working.

Together, we can:

  • Protect local access for every family on the Beaches.

  • Build a sustainable model supporting both public and private care.

  • Strengthen our hospital network for Northern Sydney and beyond.

WHAT WE NEED

TO GET RIGHT

Refining the co-located model gives us a shared responsibility to make sure the changes strengthen, not weaken, the care our community relies on.

Together, we need to protect:

Surgical capacity

Maintaining balanced public and private capacity is essential to prevent longer waitlists and maintain efficiency.

Specialist services

Cardiac, cancer, maternity, mental-health, neurosurgery and robotic surgery teams depend on co-location.

Local access

Nearly 80% of residents have private health insurance; keeping services local matters.

Workforce stability

A balanced model helps attract and retain leading specialists.

System balance

Co-located care isn’t competition, it’s partnership that keeps services in the community.

Collaboration and transparency

Open engagement between government, clinicians and the community will be essential to design the best model for the future.
